Club Berowra
The Deck Bistro
997 Pacific Highway
Berowra, Sydney
This friendly neighbourhood club (formerly known as the Berowra RSL club) is becoming a popular casual dining destination since their new chef Tim Droder took the helm. The menu is now simplified but there’s something to suit all tastes and most importantly, it’s all done really well.
There’s a decent kids menu and guests can share starters before tucking into steaks, burgers, salads, pasta and great fish and chips. The schnitzel toppings are a must to try (maybe the prawn mornay or the bacon, cheese and BBQ sauce) and there is a choice of sides and sauces for the steaks, which are cooked to your liking. Choose from the wine list or indulge in a cocktail.
Dame M chose the 200g rump with gravy on the side, veggies and mash. The steak was cooked to perfection as ordered and the veggies were fresh, green and buttery. It was a generous serve and so delicious!
The schnitzels were a popular choice among our group, which were reportedly crispy, juicy and tasty. The accompanying salads were fresh and perky and everyone was impressed with the chips – so important!
Dame J was a big fan of her fish and chips, and the baked salmon fillet was said to be cooked “just right”.
Yet another highlight was the Butter Chicken – served with rice and papadums. It was authentic and delicious with a nice little spicy kick. Very good indeed!
All the desserts looked good and we couldn’t choose, so we asked for a platter to share. The staff were happy to oblige and we sampled them all - chocolate mousse, berry crepes, bread & butter pudding with caramel sauce. You couldn’t have a more satisfying end to a great meal. They were all really good!
Club Berowra is open every day with varying hours. There is the usual club gaming and you can try your luck in a Friday night meat raffle.
If you don’t want to drive, the station is just over the road and there is a courtesy bus available throughout the evenings.
