Harbour Bar and Kitchen
Harbourside Shopping Centre
2-10 Darling Drive
Darling Harbour, Sydney
Harbour Bar and Kitchen is one of those hidden treasures in Sydney. It’s located on the upper level of the Harbourside Shopping centre and offers interrupted views of Sydney’s breathtaking skyline.
The space is modern and comfortable with ample space both inside and out. It’s the perfect choice for both large functions or an intimate dinner, depending on the occasion.
We quite enjoy an Aperol Spritz to start our evening and what better way to enjoy one than with an amazing view of Darling Harbour. It was also the perfect companion whilst studying Harbour Kitchen’s extensive menu.
Our first dish was a vegan salad, which some people might think means low in taste, but let us assure you the Wood fired Pumpkin salad at Harbour Bar and Kitchen is off the charts. The Jap pumpkin was beautifully roasted and mixed with flavour rich ingredients like chickpeas, quinoa and red onion but then blended with a robust walnut oil which added a lot of texture. This salad was so delicious, we couldn’t get enough of it.
We also enjoyed some mouth-watering king prawns which were baked and smoked with saffron butter and cooked with a unique five spice sauce. If you like big prawns, then you will love these, as they were huge and full of flavour.
Next we tried a side dish which we had never seen (or tasted) before, some ravioli chips. This amazing creation combines the best of a few favourites. The ravioli is filled with mash potato and then deep fried, creating a chip like texture but still keeping that amazing pasta taste. It was such a simple side dish but for us, one of the best things we’ve tasted in a while.
For our main, we chose the BBQ platter for two, which when it arrived, we thought they had served us the BBQ platter for four, that’s how big this dish is. The platter boasts a 1/2 rack of pork ribs, a 1/2 rack of beef ribs, a tender chargrilled sirloin fillet, a burger, 2 skewers of BBQ mini wings and chips (How do they fit all that in one platter?).. Had we known it was going to be this big we would have had less starters or entrees. The meat was all freshly chargrilled and oozing that beautiful smokey aroma that comes with barbequing. To help you tackle the platter, its served with a separate basket of wet wipes, napkins and special carving knives.
If you love your meat, then this is definitely the dish for you. Just bring a huge appetite.
Although its hard to believe, we managed to fit in some dessert. We even went as far as choosing one dessert each. We went for the Exotic Dome and the Wild Strawberry pillow. Both desserts were fresh and light. Though we tried, we weren’t able to finish them. We will have to come back another time, just for dessert.
Harbour Bar and Kitchen is open 7 days a week from 10 am till late, 365 days a year.
