New Chilli House
45 Dixon St
Chinatown, Sydney
New Chilli House isn't a fancy place. It's a fairly open venue that looks straight out at street level on to Dixon Street in Chinatown. It's a compact place too with tables clustered in and people all focussed on their food while inside.
We started with the saute diced prawns with hot spicy kong pao sauce. It was a substantial serving and certainly had a bit of kick to it and quite a few prawns as well.
This was the standout dish we had - and a decent dish anywhere. If you like Peking duck pancakes - and we certainly do - then give this alternative a go some time. Simplistically described as shredded pork with pancake it was much more than this. Yes it did have those lovely pancakes that you get with Peking duck. It had a good pile of shredded beef and it also had cucumber slivers and sprouts. It was a great combo inside the pancakes and we certainly enjoyed every last bit of it.
The menu is quite long so it's worth taking the time to go through the "book" of options before choosing as you may discover an option late in the viewing.
We left New Chilli House full. The servings were good sized and we'd definately recommend the shredded pork with pancake.
