Asian tapas has such an enticing sound to it doesn’t it! The idea of bite sized Asian morsels for dinner is one that had our attention straight away. We eagerly dropped by to try the offerings here. Having already had a glance at the menu online we knew there were more choices than we could handle. It was a good kind of dilemma!
The enticingly named crispy spiced fried chicken with kimchi mayo was exactly what was described in the menu. The chicken was beautifully crispy with a nice mild zing to it and we used all the mayo! This was a decent sized dish too for tapas.
Dumplings are hard to resist for us. The Street Market No 1 home made chicken and prawn pan fried dumplings came in a serving of six with a pot of soy sauce. The dumplings were soft on one side and crisp on the other, creating a great contrast of textures. The tasty filling was good too.
Even though it was Asian tapas we were still inspired enough to order their sangria to drink. They did it well too and no-one could ever accuse them of skimping on the fruit in it either!
One of the dishes of the night was the char-grilled eggplant with soy miso glaze. Who’d have thought the humble eggplant could taste this good. The flavours were amazing as we eagerly devoured the two large pieces on the plate.
The char-grilled juicy beef skewer with spicy ponzu sauce came in a serving of two. The meat was nicely tender and juicy (as promised) and the dipping sauce also went well.
Finally, we had the roti Chennai. This was a serving of roti (we ordered two roti’s because we can never just have one!) with a Malay inspired chicken curry. While eating the chicken we also eagerly mopped up the thin tasty curry sauce with the very tasty roti.
The concept of Asian tapas might seem strange to some, but it does work. The variety of dishes on offer here gives everyone the opportunity to create a meal with plenty of tastes, textures and flavours.
Street Market Asian Tapas is certainly on to something. Their Asian tapas has a wide variety of dishes that cover the spectrum of tastes.
