Sitting under the fluoro stairs inside World Square is Silk Café. There’s been a café here under one banner or another ever since this complex opened. Silk has now been here a little while but has undergone a transformation in recent times. It’s a good change too with some interesting menu options that work well for the lunchtime crowds.
We were there for a quick lunch and the first dish chosen was the seafood risotto. It sounded good with a bed of Arborio rice with scallops, prawns, calamari, salmon, mussels, onion, cherry tomatoes and Napoli sauce. It’s a big dish packed with seafood that looks and tastes great.
A steak sandwich is a great lunch meal. They’re usually big hearty meals that fill you up with comfort food. This was no exception. This had striploin steak with a tangy onion jam that was very tasty. It also had chutney, salad, cheese and a hint of mustard and came with a pot of beer battered chips.
For a slightly healthier take on lunch the salmon and chorizo may be your choice. It’s a tasty dish with a good sized piece of pan roasted New Zealand ora king salmon on a bed of pesto with steamed broccolini and a nice pile of sliced fried chorizo. There’s plenty going on with this dish and it has big flavour combinations too.
While this is a café it’s also licenced so you can grab a glass of wine of a beer if you want. The list isn’t long as most of the lunch time crowd tend to drink coffee and other non-alcoholic beverages.
The changes to the menu here at Silk Café and Restaurant are good ones. the dishes are hearty and tasty and there’s plenty of space here. The booths at the side are always popular.
