Blaq Piq
11 Alberta St
Sydney CBD
What a great little discovery this place was - and discovery is the operative word as it’s really hard to find! Blaq Piq is hidden away down the end of Alberta Lane in Sydney CBD. It’s a laneway that should be well known to foodies in Sydney as it hosts a few tasty venues, but they’re right down the end. It’s a long thin place inside with a large courtyard outside.
The smashed avocado is given a further burst of colour with the addition of tomatoes, Danish feta and red onion as well as having a 63’C egg. It’s a breakfast that looked bright and inviting and one that tasted just as appealing too.
The Tea Smoked Salmon is another vibrant dish that leaps off the plate at you. The bright orange salmon was beautifully presented surrounding a 63’C egg. It was served with beetroot, kombu and a tangy citrus ponzu and a plate with toasted sourdough and butter. It was a lovely meal. The salmon was delicious and the egg oozed out creating a great mix.
As it was brunch, coffee’s were of course involved. They arrived quickly which was appreciated and they were tasty brews too.
The final meal was the quirkily named 4 Kinda Confit Mushroom. This bowl of goodies was made with garlic butter, sage, onion and ricotta and came with a 63’C egg on top and a side of toasted sourdough and butter. It was yet another filling meal with big flavours.
The outside courtyard looks like a pleasant place to sit and chill. On a fine morning or even afternoon this would be a lovely place to enjoy some innovative food and a drink.
Blaq Piq is a great place. The food is creative and tasty. It’s hard to find but worth the effort so make sure you don’t give up!
