SILVERBEAN - ENMORE, SYDNEY

Silverbean
99 Enmore Rd
Enmore, Sydney

Silverbean is a vintage style cafe in the popular suburb of Enmore, a place where the restaurants and cafes are as diverse as its residents.

The space is intimate and the ambience is warm and relaxed. It's old bentwood chairs and copper lights give it a real rustic look.

Silverbean's menu is inspired by the Southwest of America and if that makes you think of food full of meat, beans and corn, think again.

Silverbean's menu is quite diverse, with lots of delicious options for vegetarian and vegan diets too.

We arrived for brunch on a Saturday morning and we choose to sit inside.

We could have easily chosen a table outside (perfect for people watching) but we were drawn to the lovely wooden furniture and warm interior.

We started with two long blacks whilst we looked at the menu - fairly normal for us.

They serve organic fair trade coffee from PNG here.

It was smooth and was arrived with a beautiful crema - a sure indication your long black is going to be superb.

We loved it.

We don't come across vegan dishes very often, so we opted to try the Vegan breakfast. It seemed weird that we were ordering a breakfast dish that didn't come with any eggs or bacon but we love trying new things so we were somewhat excited. If we could describe the Vegan breakfast in a few words, we would say healthy and fresh. It was loaded with homemade things like baked beans, mushrooms and avocado. The sourdough toast was crisp and accompanied with the most delicious walnut oil, made on right on premises.

Next up a massive smoked salmon stack (and when we say massive we mean massive). Loaded with a hash brown, chorizo and of course poached eggs, this dish is the one to go for if you are in the mood for a big meal. Obviously freshly prepared, the hash brown was crunchy and the smoked salmon had just the right amount of saltiness to it. Count N also enjoyed the chipotle mayo that came with it.

Now, If there's one thing you can always count on with The Counts, it's that there's always room for something sweet - even after a huge meal.

So, to finish up, we ordered some hot cakes without much persuasion at all.

These fluffy hot cakes were served with crispy bacon, berry compote, ricotta and were drizzled with a very unique chamomile maple.

We've had hotcakes served with bacon many times, usually drowned in maple syrup and cream but these had just the right amount of maple and the ricotta instead of cream gave the dish a slightly less sweet sugary taste. We had also never tried camomile maple before and we loved it's fruity and vanilla like scent.

As we finished our meals, we took a look around the cafe, admiring some of the interesting pictures on the wall.

We came across a lovely couch area at the back of the cafe (wish we had seen that from the beginning). It's a perfect spot for some privacy or an intimate catch up.

Silverbean impressed us with their fresh and tasty food, their great service and a real warm atmosphere, a place p where you can just sit back and relax.

We definitely will be back, probably to try a few things from the lunch menu next time. Silverbean is open 7 days a week for breakfast and lunch.

The Counts, who review for Sir and Mlady Dine Out, dined as guests of Silverbean. Special thanks to Elijah for this invitation.

BAUHAUS WEST -

Bauhaus West
163 Enmore Rd
Enmore, Sydney

Enmore is possibly one of the most famous suburbs in Sydney, home to The Enmore Theatre. It is here, almost directly across from the Enmore Theatre that you will find Bauhaus West, a trendy restaurant bar with a cocktail list to rival any CBD establishment.

Bauhaus West is an all seasons venue. It has a beautiful interior stylishly decorated with edgy post industrial type furniture. The seating style is mostly high chairs with tables and although bar type dining might seem unappealing to some people, the seating is actually very comfortable here. For the warmer months, there is a lovely outdoor area which is very relaxed and perfect for larger groups.

One of the things we love the most about this place is you can just pop in for a drink, which is great if you are waiting for a show to start across the road and don’t have much time.

The drinks list is quite comprehensive and the wine list is great. But don’t let that you think that this place doesn’t have awesome food, cause it does. The East-West fusion menu is definitely set to satisfy any appetite.

We arrived on a busy Friday night but finding a table wasn’t very difficult.

We choose a spot inside, outside seemed nice but still a bit cold for an alfresco meal.

We ordered two glasses of the simmonet–febre brut, a lovely French champagne while we studied the menu.

The counts like celebrating the end of a working week with a cocktail and here at Bauhaus West, they have a really impressive cocktail menu.
Count J had a harder week than usual and needed something with a bit of kick, so he chose an Espresso Martini whereas Count N was after a more refreshing drink and went with the Lychee Caipiroska. Both cocktails were mixed well.

The Espresso Martini was deliciously smooth without masking the vodka (as it should be) and with real butterscotch giving it a hint of caramel. The Caipirsoka was really refreshing and the fresh lychee was great.

We love stuffed Zucchini flowers so when we saw them on the menu we just had to have them. These were delicious and with a hint of chilli mixed in the goats cheese making them picante hit. Next we had some Japanese Fried Chicken. Crispy on the outside and juicy tender on the inside, these chicken pieces are a showstopper. They call it the JFC (get it?) but this chicken is ten times better than the other chicken, and the shrimp and oyster based sauce is a fantastic dipping agent. We couldn’t get enough of it.

Another thing we love about Bauhaus West is the food is designed for sharing so you can order lots of little things and try a bit of everything. We tried the Hunan Beef Short Rib, small pieces of rib, perfectly cooked and with a hint of hotness as they were marinated with chilli and shallots. These bite size ribs are a great choice if you are looking for a less messy way to enjoy ribs.

We also tried the mini arancini balls with a beautiful pesto sauce. These aromatic arancini balls, cooked with a secret spice, are well worth trying. Bauhaus West does larger servings just as well as share plates. We decided to order a main dish to try it out. The blue eyed cod was presented beautifully with a leek fondant and was really delicious. The leek, not overcooked, was quite crunchy and had a good texture. Its’ really easy to overcook leek and make it soggy but that wasn’t the case here. The serving size was massive.

After all this, we were determined to have dessert and not only did we order dessert, we ordered one each!!!!

Our first dessert (the counts share everything) was a sour cream ice cream stack. Smothered in chocolate biscuits, sesame crisps and a berry coulis. This dessert was both unique and extraordinary. Not only was it presented beautifully, the sour cream ice cream gave it a sour twist that blended so well with the rest of the ingredients.

Now after this, don't think our second dessert wasn't just as impressive. With a crunchy centred ball surrounded by some very tangy orange ice cream, this fondue had both counts scooping up every last bit.

Our amazing dining experience ended with two very beautifully done macchiatos all prepared on premises by their talented barista.

Bauhaus west ticks all the boxes. With a great space perfect for winter or summer, great service with baristas who are talented in both coffee and cocktails and a great food menu, it's the perfect choice for your next dining experience.

Bauhaus west is open Wednesday to Sunday. All their menu items are available as take away too and if you live locally, they'll even deliver it right to your door.
The Counts, who are part of the "Sir and Mlady Dine Out" team, dined as guests of Bauhaus West. Special thanks to Chris Thomas for the invitation.

COW & THE MOON ARTISAN GELATO - ENMORE

Cow and The Moon Artisan Gelato
181 Enmore Rd
Enmore

This is a popular place. Its quite crowded on a Friday or Saturday night - but considering the tasty treats inside its not a surprise.
The macarons were extremely good. Great flavours and a sweet filling. Some of our group rated them up there with the best while others said they were perhaps a bit to sweet. If you like a sweet macaron though these ones are for you!
The baked ricotta cheesecake was ordered by two of our group. Both said it was very good.
The balsamic strawberry gelato is very popular - and after tasting it we could see why. Its a great combination - if you haven't tried it yet give it a go.
The combination of pistachio and balsamic strawberry combined two favourites from Cow and The Moon.

Cow and The Moon have some great options. Their coffee and desserts are very good. Their home-made gelato is excellent and their chocolates and macarons give you plenty of choices. The service is a bit slow at times - a few of our items were very slow and we had to remind them - but its a busy and cheerful place that's deservedly popular.

SULTANS TABLE - ENMORE

Sultans Table
179 Enmore Rd
Enmore

Sultans Table is great. You eat like a King and its dirt cheap. Wow. We loved it. We ate with T & D, Z, N and J - great company and a great meal as well.

There was so much food and when you can feed, fill and satisfy seven people for only $113 its got to be a winner.
The large mixed dips is a great start for a group. For a meagre $20 you get nine different dips - and good quantities of each of them too. The garlic dip (front right in picture) was great - but certainly lingered! The chilli dip (middle right) had a real kick and the beetroot dip (middle left) was tangy and almost sweet.
The bread is a must with the dips - but order plenty because the quantities of dip mean you will use lots of bread. At only $3 per basket its cheap though so its not a problem.
The zucchini fritters were nice but different people in our group liked them more than others.
The pides were delicious. The spinach pide had egg, cheese and spinach in it. The quantity and quality was amazing. They arrived piping hot and were delicious.
The peynirli pide was even better. The combination of cheeses (including haloumi) with egg was sooo nice.
The iskender kebab came highly recommended by N and J so we ordered two for our group - and we were glad we did. Again absolutely delicious - the thin slivers of juicy meat blended beautifully with the bread and drizzled with yoghurt was a real winner.

We capped it all off with a mixed grill. This was a meatfest topped with slices of pitta. The chicken was browned nicely but soft juicy and tender inside. The lamb was marinated beautifully and again so tender.

Sultans Table was so good. The service was a bit slow at times but they were very busy and so friendly it really didn't matter. The place is a bit deceptive - from the front it looks like a take-away - but the seating is tucked away at the back in a nice enclosed courtyard.
