North Bondi RSL is situated, of course, at the northern end of iconic Bondi Beach with sweeping panoramic views of the beach and the ocean.
What better way to sit and relax than with a cold refreshing beer whilst savouring a very tasty meal from the Bistro. Mlady loves a dark beer so she had a Tooheys Old and Sir had a Heineken.
We started with White Anchovies on Turkish bread with hummus and rocket. How good are these! We loved them! We are always on the lookout for White Anchovies and when we saw them on the menu - it was YES! Such a great unique tasting fish and teamed with the hummus and rocket - so good!
Still in keeping with the fish theme we went with the Salt and Pepper Squid with chilli, lemongrass and ginger sauce. This had beautiful flavours. The Salt and Pepper squid was cooked perfectly tender and the sauce had an amazing taste. The subtleness of the lovely ginger shone through. Dipping the squid in this was lovely!
For a main Mlady chose the popular "Schnitty". Chicken schnitzel and gravy with mash and peas. This was HUGE. The schnitzel was so good and we would have to say - one of the best! Plenty of fluffy mash and vibrant tasty peas which Mlady chose instead of the chips and salad.
Sir chose the slow cooked lamb and mushroom ragout with goats cheese ravioli. It had a lovely rich meaty sauce - and plenty of it - on top of a tasty ravioli. It certainly smelled delish too!
We actually did manage to fit in (just) dessert. Mlady had the Coffee Almond Cake. She had a few scoops of vanilla ice-cream as well. Oink Oink. It was a very pretty cake and boy it tasted YUM! She thoroughly enjoyed this.
Sir chose the tasty Red Velvet. Another pretty cake which was so moist and had a decent layer of icing on it.
We finished our evening with a glass each of McWilliams Port. These went well with our desserts.
The food at The Bistro North Bondi RSL is delicious and the servings and substantial. They have a good range to choose from on their menu.
