THE HILLS MIDDLE EASTERN - CROYDON PARK< SYDNEY

We attended a fabulous function at owner Nawar’s restaurant. This place is a gem. The Hills Middle Eastern churns out great Lebanese food at the front to an eager flow of hungry people. Out the back though is an oasis - their lovely function room. Our evening was there - and what a beauty it was for an amazing night. They have another place too - in Hunters Hill. We’re so there!

The Hungry Diner himself, Mick Teasdale, really knows how to put on a good profile raising show for a venue - and this night was certainly that and more. Actually, it was a great party too where everyone got to experience all that The Hills had to offer and had an absolute ball at the same time. As we walked in the music was pumping from DJ Emma Bass. Emma is amazing and this really set the scene for the night ahead. Her music totally fitted the party mood.

As we walked in, we were also greeted with a tray of shots. These were so good that throughout the night Mlady had two more! What a party animal!

There was also an impressive display of Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey. This stuff is so good! It’s a mixture of Canadian whisky, cinnamon flavouring and sweeteners. They say it “Tastes like Heaven, Burns like Hell”. All we know is we loved it.

Did you know that as of 2018 this drink is among the top selling whisky brands in the US. Impressive! It is produced by the Sazerac Company and with recent history beginning in Canada in the mid-80’s, cinnamon infused spicy whiskys were the perfect boost for icy cold winters.

Another treat for everyone was meeting the GH Mumm Champagne Brand Ambassador in Sydney Australia Emmanuel de Madre. Emmanuel went round and poured a glass to those who wanted to experience the elegant Champagne. We of course took him up on this offer - who wouldn’t! It’s such a great treat.

The food and drinks were delicious and we got to sample a very good selection of what is on the menu. The food was beautifully and appetisingly presented. The fattoush, a mixed salad of fried bread (or khubz which is bread in Arabic), veggies and salad was perched on a stand with crispy bread underneath and fresh soft Lebanese bread there too. It was an amazing dish. This is a great way to eat salad!

Dips are a fave of Mlady and hommus is up at the top of the list. This was so good.she just kept revisiting it again and again.

Another traditional dip on offer was the labneh, a strained thick yoghurt. Apart from being rich and creamy it’s also surprisingly healthy too. It didn’t hurt that this also tasted great as well.

A third dip was baba ganoush. This eggplant based dip had the added tang from lemon, spices and olive oil giving it a zesty kick that really hit the spot.

Mlady has to say the Tabbouleh (she loves a green salad) was one of the best she has ever had. She lost count how many servings of this she had - but it was a lot. It was yet another tangy tasty dish.

Next up was a plate of bites that included kibbeh, falafel, fried cauliflower florets and a variety of sambouseks. They were all great but the delicious florets have to be without a doubt the absolute best way to eat cauliflower ever.

The idea of meat on sticks is just the best. There was a variety with chicken, lamb and kafta. They all had that lovely charred BBQ flavour that comes from being freshly cooked over coals. The meat was so tasty, tender and juicy. Sir loved the lamb the most while Mlady favoured the chicken. They were all great though.

It really was such a great night. The food, the wine, the entertainment and then to top everything off we had Sahara El Hana give a magnificent display of belly dancing. She made it look so easy. She was so good at getting people up on the floor to join her. Everyone was certainly getting into the fun and it created a great atmosphere.
