In some ways bakeries should be outlawed! The smell makes it almost impossible to walk by without going inside. They should bottle it and sell it - someone would make a fortune! Imagine an air freshener that smelled liike freshly baked bread! We were on a wander and got dragged in to this place without even realising it at first.
We did the usual drill on entering. Stop. Smell the tasty air. Study the counters to see what’s there. It’s a ritual for most of us in these situations.
We were really only after something small each for a snack. Yeah right! We entered with the idea of a limited small purchase and left with four items - two for now and two for later on. Hmmm - noble intentions but no willpower. Sums us up I suppose. So the first choice was cherry pie. Yes they had apple everything - pie, slice, turnover, coffee (ok not coffee really) - but cherry just sounded great. It was too. There was a nice sweet kick that wasn’t over the top. The pastry was nice as well.
This vanilla slice was probably the standout of the bunch - even though it was all good. The pastry layers on the top and the bottom were nice and flaky, the icing was sweet and tasty and the custard stole the show. It was thick, perfectly formed and delicious. What a winner this was. We’ll be back for more!
Caramel slice is another regular of ours at places and so we had to try their version just to see how it was. In short, it really was good. There was a nice biscuit base topped with rich caramel and a great layer of chocolate. It was big too - but most things here come in large servings.
Our final acquisition was a Neenish tart. Ever had one of these? It’s basically a pastry tart shell filled with cream and topped with icing in two colours - half brown and half white. It’s a simple but tasty treat and this one was delish.
There are so many choices here. It’s hard to decide but just take your time. We did and we weren’t rushed at all. The perusing was half the fun - eating with our eyes.
This small suburban bakery certainly packs a big punch. Go in just for a look and you’ll leave with plenty of goodies. We did and it was a great decision. The food here is great.
