Woodland Cafe
1205 Botany Rd
Mascot, Sydney
Woodland Café is located in Mascot, right on Botany Rd and although its right in the heart of Mascot shops, it really has a warm, relaxed neighbourhood feel about it. The café itself is stylishly decorated with ample seating inside and out, and an installation of wood and indoor plants near the counter, giving it an authentic urban but relaxed feel.
The staff are just absolutely lovely and we are not exaggerating here. We received a genuine warm welcome on arrival, were immediately shown to our table and then as we took our seats, we observed the staff greet almost every customer who walked in by their first name. What a great way to start your day!
We believe coffee can make or break your day and given it was 7.45 in the morning before a full day of meetings, a lot was at stake for us. No need to worry though, the guy working the coffee machine here is a genius and our Campos long black and strong flat white were both worthy of applause.
Now to the food. The menu at the Woodland Café is really diverse and will cater for any breakfast, brunch or lunch desire. They have everything from lovely toast and spreads, to simple eggs with sides, to amazing creations like Magic Mushrooms, Summer salads, a very unique avo smash, polenta, fritters, burgers, the list goes on. For us, the only problem was trying to choose what to order, as the heart wanted to try everything but the head (or rather the waist) said otherwise.
The Avo Smash was really unique and so delicious we couldn’t scoop up enough of the crumbs at the end. Served on charcoal sourdough bread, this mountain of avocado yumminess included Persian feta, poached eggs, dukkah, pomengranate and a beetroot labneh that is just heavenly.
The Magic Mushrooms were a serenade of miso and sesame with golden sauted mushrooms and exceptional flavours like parmesan and parsley blanketing a soft brioche and eggs. This is a really hearty and delicious dish.
We also managed to fit in the Polenta which was a massive dish with lots of interesting middle eastern flavours. It had a bed of perfect polenta and was topped with mushrooms, fried kale and almonds. There was also a delicious hummus bringing everything together. It had really interesting flavours and all combined so well.
We absolutely enjoyed our breakfast at Woodland Café. With great coffee, amazing food and a really authentic friendly atmosphere, we can’t think of a better way to start your day or enjoy your lunch. If you haven’t visited Woodland Café yet, we highly recommend you do.
Woodland Café is open 7 days a week for breakfast, brunch and lunch. It wont be long until we are back. The Dukes dined as guests of Woodland Cafe.
