Sharing smaller plates is something we really enjoy and often do this with many cuisines but with tapas, it is simply perfect. With Tapas you can get to sample and savour many scrumptious dishes. It’s a bit like having Mediterranean yum cha for dinner.
We were initially going to order six dishes but our waiter said that the four or five would be enough. Allowing for Sir’s appetite we went for five dishes which we just managed to finish. This advice was really appreciated.
Most times when we have tapas we end up ordering sangria. We do know that Spain has some great wines - and we’ve sampled plenty of them - but sangria just calls us. This was no exception and we ordered ‘Red’ Sangria.
We can’t go past marinated white anchovies. How good did these look and how good did they taste? Their iridescent gorgeous silver colour was so inviting. We loved them! These are a big favourite of ours.
Sir loves his garlic so spying garlic prawns - he just had to have. These really were good swimming in a beautiful garlicy sea. We had one bread roll to start with but all the lovely garlicky sauce needed to be soaked up so we ordered another bread roll. Oh so lovely.
A serving of Iberico ham croquettes was next. We love croquettes and have them everywhere. These ones had a nice soft tasty centre encased in a light crisp golden flaky crust.
There were so many great choices on the menu but we could not go past the grilled chorizo. The spicy bite of these grilled sausage slices is a winner. Again this was a substantial dish that was deliciously tasty.
We are both quite partial to seafood and there was a decent range on the menu. We landed on the fried calamari. Wow - what a dish! There was plenty of fried calamari that was perfectly cooked. The calamari had a nice crisp and light outside with a lovely soft centre. A pot of aioli was also there for dipping and we used it all! We thoroughly enjoyed this very substantial dish.
The food at Encasa is divine! Their tapas menu is tasty, varied, fresh and substantial. We have to say these mouth watering tapas dishes were some of the best we have had.
