Harpoon Harry at Hotel Harry
44 Wentworth Ave
Surry Hills, Sydney
It's hard to know what to expect from a place called Harpoon Harry. We recommend you do go in though and give it a go. You'll be pleasantly surprised. We dropped by and even stayed there in the lovely renovated old world rooms they have upstairs. It's a step back in time above ground there - a bit like what you get in places like Jenolan Caves House or even Hadleys in Hobart. Sophisticated yesteryear. We also grabbed a quick bite downstairs too. The subdues lighting there made pictures difficult, but don't be fooled as the food is good.
We shared two dishes to nibble on and left very full. The first dish was their house guacamole. This large dish - even though it's in the snack section of the menu - had a big pile of guac made from avocado, tomato, onion and coriander topped with sour cream all in the middle of a sea of corn chips. You can also add an extra topping of pork crackling - which we did - oink!
The buttermilk fried chicken sounded great and it turned out to be great. Big juicy chunks of chicken arrived coated in a lovely crispy outer layer. This was served with smoked chilli mayo, pickles and lemon. Sir could have eaten this all day!
Harpoon Harry's has some surprisingly good food on offer. It's worth venturing through their doors to give their menu a go!
