We confess - we love club food. These days the quality leaves past memories, well, in the past. Now, the quality is invariably high and the servings are big and well presented as they need it to generate foot traffic. If they don’t measure up, the people vote with their feet. Hornsby RSL Club has several food venues inside this expansive club. On this occasion we were visiting their casual area called The Courtyard. It has a really nice indoor/outdoor feel to it so the name is apt.
We decided to stick with mains as they all looked so big. Sir loves his lamb so he had the lamb shanks. They’re such a great cut of meat aren’t they and the meat is so tender if they’re properly cooked. These were great. The two big shanks were so tender and came on a bed of mash, all topped with sauteed leeks and green beans and drizzled with a lovely red wine sauce.
Mlady loves fish and barramundi is a particular favourite. Here they have James Squire beer battered barramundi served with chips, salad and tartare sauce. It was an easy choice for her. It turned out to be a very good choice too. There were three large pieces of fish, beautifully cooked, on a bed of chips. It was huge and she really struggled to finish it all and in fact didn’t. She went close though.
We decided on cocktails on this occasion. In the current times they have a limited range. Sir had an Aperol spritz and Mlady had a Sea Breeze - a tangy mix of vodka, cranberry juice and grapefruit juice.
Sir, being the trouper he is, managed dessert. What a shock! They have a big range here too so take a look. The decision won’t be easy. He eventually decided on a large salted caramel tart with a cute macaron on top. It looked lovely and tasted great too.
There’s a big menu here. They also have a wide range of dumplings as well. If all the other dishes are as good as the ones we had, you’ll be very happy.
The Courtyard offers really tasty food in large servings all in pleasant surroundings. Club food has come a long way and this food is well and truly up there. We left very full and very content.
