If you want to experience the joys of a visit to Greece and their great food without the travel - and we all sadly know we can’t travel there right now anyway - then a trip to Santorini on Oxford ticks a lot of these boxes. This really is a great place. The servings are massive, super fresh and very very tasty. They have a great and varied menu with so much to choose from. We have been to the Island of Santorini and absolutely loved it! We can’t wait til we can go there again but our visit to Santorini on Oxford was the next best thing!

Arriving anywhere usually means getting settled in, looking at the menu and invariably grabbing a drink! To start with Mlady had a lovely red - a Merlot - and Sir had a refreshing Greek Alpha beer. When in Greece ….

The Greeks are known for a lot of different foods, but seafood is definitely one of them! We both really love seafood so could not go past having the Kataifi prawns. These looked so good and were cooked perfectly. These lovely plump juicy prawns were each individually encased in delicate crispy filo pastry strands that looked like crispy noodles. Put these beauties on your list to order - they’re so good!

Our next dish was freshly cooked at the front of the restaurant where people walking past can see. It certainly has a wow factor. The char grilled calamari was simply divine. We could see it cooking, smell it cooking and almost taste it before it arrived! Again, this was cooked perfectly, with nice and tender pieces piled on the plate. It was such a visually appetising meal - and again there was plenty of it! Add a squeeze of lemon and get ready for a big citrussy BBQ hit!

Tyropita was next. This flavoursome dish was a slab of feta encased in pastry and drizzled with with honey. This really was a lovely combination. It looked amazing when it arrived at the table and Dimitri the owner even cut it up for us.

Dessert was next - and we started with galaktoboureko. It’s a mouthful to say but a great way to finish a meal. This was a huge serving yet again. It’s a dessert which is reminiscent of tiramisu and custard tart combined. It had lovely smooth textures and great flavours.

Then we tried Ekmek Kataifi. This had a filo pastry strand base topped with a light fluffy creamy mixture that was all covered in cherries and nuts. It looked a bit like trifle and tasted great yet again. A plate of watermelon slices was the finale to the meal.

There’s also an upstairs room that caters for busy nights but also works perfectly as a private room for functions. Take a look while you’re here - it’s worth keeping in mind for that next group event!

The food at Santorini on Oxford is really good, very fresh and so substantial. You should try to order something from the char grill at the front of restaurant. Go and take a look at the process too - it is dinner and a show!
