The Ivanhoe Hotel
27 The Corso
Manly, Sydney
Hasn’t “pub grub” come a long way! The Ivanhoe Hotel certainly has quality pub food.
Their menu is diverse so there is something for everyone. The venue has a “beachy driftwood” feel to it and is very pretty. There are approximately 10 different areas for functions.
This venue is huge and has 2 kitchens to keep up with the enormous crowds it draws.
They also provide a Take-away service – from 11.am to close!
We commenced our meal with cocktails. Sir had a Pina Colada slushie (Pina Colada, rum, pineapple, coconut cream and lime) and Mlady a Maple old fashioned (Makers mark, salted maple, bitters and maple bacon). The Pina Colada is a popular favourite cocktail of which Sir enjoyed. Mlady could taste the smoothness of the salted maple.
We had a bit of a cross section and started with a pizza. It was prawn and chorizo. It had tiger prawns, chorizo roasted garlic, Spanish onion, mozzarella and chimmi churri.
The pizza had a good tasting base with plenty of tiger prawns and chorizo. This was a really good flavoursome pizza and with the chimmi churri – nice!
From the Burgers menu we had -
The Fish sandwich – described as - battered fish, iceberg, American cheese, onion and our house made troppo sauce. This was a beautiful, delicious, soft, moist tasting fish. The sauce really was good and the bun soft – nice! An amazing “sandwich”!
The Southern Fried chicken – Crispy buttermilk chicken, American cheese, purple slaw, fried onion rings, pickles and our hot lava sauce. How good was this! The chicken was tender and oh so crispy. The sauce – WOW – had such a wonderful kick. Again the bun holding in all the goodness was nice and soft. Another amazing dish!
Next was the Chicken Parmigiana – An Ivanhoe Classic. This was chicken schnitzel topped with house made smoked leg ham, Napolitana sauce, melted cheese with chips and salad or veg and mash. We had it with the salad. Oh my goodness the chicken was so soft and tender. And those chips! Pure heaven – nice and crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside – and they were big – YUM! The salad was fresh and lightly dressed and went very well with the Chicken Parmigiana.
A salad that we tried was the Vegan Nourish Bowl – mixed leaves, quinoa, avocado, carrot ribbons, zucchini noodles, roast pumpkin, mixed roasted nuts and seeds and the goodness of tahini, basil, lemon, coconut water and avocado oil dressing. Where to start with this amazing salad? It had a really good combination of textures and was just so colourful. The taste – Delish! And there was plenty of this gorgeous salad.
After all this really incredible meal we did have dessert but we shared it. It was a Chocolate brownie – salted caramel popcorn and a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. The chocolate brownie warm and moist and the generous scoop of the vanilla ice-cream with the crunchy salted caramel popcorn was sheer bliss.
The food here is really good, fresh, plenty of it and delicious. A diverse menu – something for everyone.
