We were looking for somewhere for a nice casual meal for a group of four in or near the city. Our thoughts immediately turned towards finding a nice pub and we decided on the quirky combination of pub food and Mexican food on offer at The Norfolk Hotel. In hindsight it turned out to be an inspired choice! This place is great.

We discovered that they have a lovely outdoor area out the back that is bright and breezy yet covered for protection. We had a great spot at the back of this area and settled in for the night ahead! The place was buzzing and the whole area had a relaxed, casual and friendly feel to it. It has plenty of greenery, comfy seating and music filtered throughout.

The venue has a great ‘buzz’ to it and the food was really good and tasty. It is a pub so we headed for some drinks pretty quickly! As it turned out, plenty of drinks were enjoyed during the night! Mlady had a really good dark beer, Sir and Friends J and G all had cool refreshing Heineken’s.

The menu here is an interesting mix of pub classics and Mexican food. No surprises, Mlady went with her ‘go to’ which is a beef burger. This delicious black Angus burger came with caramelised onion, mustard pickle, cheese, lettuce and tomato. This really was an great beef burger. She loved it all and those caramelised onions were particularly good. The fries that came with the burger were some of the best she has had too.

Sir felt like ‘going Mexican’ and chose Tacos Tacos Tacos. While there were several choices available, he went for two with crispy chicken, chilli and mayo and he also had one with fried fish and aioli. They were tasty, tangy and filling. He also couldn’t resist ordering a side of their delicious crunchy chips that were served with aioli.

Friend J had a very nice plate of tender salt and pepper squid that was served with a tangy chilli lime dressing and a salad garnish. This all had really nice flavours and textures.

Friend G went with a more traditional steak. This charred sirloin steak was slow cooked and served with gravy, salad and those amazing fries. The sirloin was cooked perfectly to order.

As the warm night went on we all changed to having the ever popular refreshing Aperol Spritz. It was a warm night so we did down a few!

They went down a treat too! The food at Norfolk Hotel is fresh, very tasty and substantial. They have plenty of choices available on their menu so therecwill undoubtedly be something for everyone. The eclectic mix of pub and Mexican food works really well here.
