The roasted Kurobuta pork with black soubise sauce, eggplant and black pudding had an amazing taste and crunch.

Neutral Bay, Sydney
After their success in Newtown Mooberry have now expanded north of the bridge to Neutral Bay, and right on Military Road too.
We were there for their media launch party and they certainly went all out.
Many people say they'll roll out the red carpet but here they actually did do this! It was done in style too - sports cars out the front, red carpet, lovely ladies there to greet everyone arriving and of course food, drinks and even live music inside!
We had a few drinks and some nibbles on offer which were all lovely but the highlight was of course the Mooberry froyo itself - this stuff is great and there are heaps of extras you can add.
Mlady was in a coconut mood so she had the coconut froyo with added coconut and maltesers. It ended up being like a great big chilled bounty - lovely!
I had the chocolate froyo and I added a rich combo of oreo's and M & M's - yes I was pigging out big time but hey, we all need to unleash our inner kid!
These froyo's are great with heaps of combinations.
Mooberry Dessert & Breakfast Bar is small but spread over three levels so there's plenty of different spaces to sit and relax and enjoy your treat!
You can end up with some spectacular looking desserts here.
Which way will you choose to go - fruity or rich and sweet?
It's a tough call.

MINSKYS - CREMORNE, SYDNEY
Minsky's Hotel
287 Military Rd
Cremorne, Sydney
We were fortunate to recently be invited to the grand relaunch of Misky's Hotel in Cremorne. As Mlady couldn't make it I was joined by the Princess.
The whole place has undergone quite a transformation. Decor has changed, food has changed and they even have new cocktails.
However some of the old faithful things have remained - including the piano and live music! The transformation looks good. It's got a good feel to it with plenty of space and plenty of options.
The new food menu has been put together by Robert Oey and there's something for everyone. The options range from smaller plates to share right through to full meals, sides and of course desserts.
They were filled with five hour marinated pulled pork topped with a dollop of slaw and it was all encased in a brioche bun.
Pork and slaw are a great pairing and these were really tasty!
The new Minsky's Hotel is somewhere to go for a tasty meal (or snack) in pleasant surroundings. We enjoyed it and would gladly come back.
Sir and Mlady were guests at the relaunch of Minsky's Hotel. Thanks to everyone involved in the relaunch event which was impressive. Special thanks also to Jonas Tobias of Men At Work Comms for arranging our visit.

While we were there for the relaunch we had quite a lot of food and there was also lots to drink! That's always a good thing in my book. Some of the dishes we tried included small individual salads, wild mushroom arancini, tempura fish pieces and herb crusted chicken tenderloin bites, crispy school prawns with chili and lime mayo and toasted sourdough with chicken liver pate and chutney. So much tasty food!

WOODEN SPOON - CREMORNE, SYDNEY
Wooden Spoon
362-366 Military Rd
Cremorne
Wooden Spoon is the classy venture of Livia Wang (front of house) and Noel Phear (Chef - formerly of Telstra Tower on Canberra's Black Mountain). It impresses as soon as you walk in the door with nice decor and a long bar stretching the length of the front room. Behind this area is the dining room for those that want more than light nibbles with their cocktails.
As Mlady was indisposed this evening I was there with the Princess, as part of an exclusive food bloggers invitation only event to launch their new menu. Many thanks to our fantastic hosts Livia and Noel as well as Taylor from Foggo Gourmet who arranged this event brilliantly. As we all found out, its a great place!

We were there with a group of other food bloggers so it was wonderful to share a delicious meal with people who love their food. We met Food Porn Nation , Confessions of a Glutton and Flick Your Food and enjoyed chatting about all things food as we ate an amazing meal.
I've had plenty of margarita's in my time and this was extremely crisp and tangy with a good kick to it. The strawberries and cream tasted just like - strawberries and cream.
We started with polenta chips that came in a stack with a creamy dipping sauce. The crisp outside and soft textured inside combined well. They were light and ideal for a pre-dinner nibble with a cocktail.
After our starter drink and nibble we then moved in to a lovely dining are at the back of Wooden Spoon (behind the bar area and kitchen).
Our five course meal started with zucchini flowers with goats cheese and basil, tomato and beans. I love zucchini flowers and I love goats cheese. This combined so well with the soft goats cheese oozing out of the tender flower as you cut in to it. The crisp freshness of the salad combination offset the warm indulgence of the flower.
Presentation was excellent as well with the dish looking as appealing as it tasted.
We then moved on to seared scallops with green pea and lemon crush and bacon brittle. Clearly a lot of time and effort has gone in to establishing good combinations here, and it shows.
The pea and lemon crush went so well with the scallops. It looked like avocado - which may have also been a good mix - but it actually tasted better than this.
The bacon brittle added a salty crunch to the treats which only added to the whole effect. This was a nice dish - if you get a chance try it.
As the Princess isn't a big seafood eater I even got to savour four of these amazing scallops instead of two!
The dumplings were beautifully done. There were four per serving with two varieties. we had two Peking duck and bamboo with ponzu sauce and two prawn, scallop and chive with roast chilli and palm sugar syrup. My favourite of these two would normally have been the duck but I thought the sauce and meat combination of the prawn dumplings went together just a little bit better. The sauce for that one was amazing. The dumplings were perfectly cooked and, as always, well presented.
Our other final dish was crisp skin pork belly with celeriac puree and candy apple jus. Pork and apple is always a winner - and crispy pork is even better. This pork belly had real crunch to it as well. I've had some supposedly crisp pork from time to time that was - well limp. This pork shattered on the outside but was oh so tender inside. Although I'm not normally a fan of celery foodstuffs the puree went very well as did the sauce. I even got a bit extra!
The evening ended with a very nice touch. We were each given a lovely note of appreciation and two macarons - a sweet way to finish the night (pun intended). Wooden Spoon is a classy place with great atmosphere and decor, an impressive array of very tasty cocktails and other drinks and some amazing food. Service is friendly and efficient making the whole place seem to flow effortlessly. All you need to do is sit back and enjoy the experience.

We'd heard good things about this place so we thought we'd try it at short notice on a Saturday and fluked a booking. Just as well we booked - it was busy - and just as well we went - it was excellent.
I cant remember what these things were called but they seemed like they were a type of curry puff. They were smallish but had plenty of flavour and came with a really tangy and tasty dipping sauce as well.

The Roti Wrap was one large roti wrapped around a vegetarian filling of potato, pumpkin and various other adornments in a flavoursome but not overly spicy combination. The tomato salsa on top added some moistness - not that it was particularly needed.
The Nile perch and prawns curry was amazing. So delicate and yet so full of flavour and taste. It was (kind of) like a very mild green curry - except that it had a combination of lime and coconut milk in the curry base. We both really enjoyed this dish.
When you see the word "Buzzard" on the menu it either draws you in or scares you away. For us - it drew us in and we had to try it. It turns out that the buzzard is (most probably) chicken anyway - but it was a tasty mild red curry type of combination that looked great and disappeared quickly.
Rice is rice. Although this was billed as something special it was simply rice to the taste. There was nothing wrong with it though - it was certainly light and fluffy and well cooked. For me - I don't like dead flies in it (sultanas) - but that's a personal preference.
I know that creme brulee with toffee blueberries is not African (or from anywhere near there really) but it looked good on the menu and she just had to have it - admittedly as soon as she saw the words creme brulee it was always going to be chosen! It was a big serving of CB in a large tea cup with a tasty combo of fruit and sweetness beside it - which soon became on top of it.

On the other hand I wanted a palate freshener and on seeing the minted green tea ice cream with rose water (and rose petal) I found it. This packed a lot of flavour into one dish - what a lovely combination that was so refreshing and so tasty. I loved every mouthful of it.
Radio Cairo is a quirky place. The service was friendly, helpful and very good. Couldn't fault it actually. The food was extremely tasty and flavoursome. The decor is quirky and interesting - you can watch old movies (silent of course) playing on small framed screens above you - King Kong was on with Fay Wray. Parking is difficult but you will find it eventually - probably down a side street. Its BYO and licenced - we took wine. It cost $95.00 for our three course meal for two - and it was great food and well worth going there.
